I've written extensively for TV documentaries (Nova, American Experience, Discovery, History, etc.) and independent films and videos. I've seen many of my plays produced, from ten minutes to full-length, even winning an award here and there.

 

But I've never felt more at home as a writer than when writing about arts and culture in essay form. It seems to engage so much of who I am, from the movie fanatic to the philosophy nerd who loves to look beyond the surface,

to the inveterate wise guy.

I view my work as an independent scholar, mostly in the form of highly visual conference talks, as part and parcel of my writing, and so include them here.
